Politics in 2020? Whatever. I suppose I’m simply indifferent at this point.
Really. I am.
It’s Sept of 2020, in the year of Covid. I’m quite confident that I’m feeling similar feelings that most Americans share. Similar feelings that Entrepreneurs feel. Similar feelings that my fellow Realtors are feeling. Similar feelings as my Pittsburgh neighbors feel.
I’m over it. As I write this – there is a section of any readership group who will be ‘offended’ by these words. Offended that I’m ‘over it’. And – that emotion of being offended is part of the problem.
I’m over it.
I’ll restate. I’m over it. Over it. The destruction of the economy. The pitting neighbor against neighbor. Watching so much negativity dominate our conversations. Social media. TV. Even sports.
I’m over it.
Oh, I guess I should mention politics. The upcoming Presidential election. A complete shitshow. Again – a complete shitshow.
Lunacy vs. Senility. That is our option. The options the American political system puked out to us — 2 very, very poor choices. In the middle of a worldwide pandemic. In the middle of racial tension. Riots. Burning. Destruction. Murders. All sides – all races – all opinions. A shitshow.
I’m over it.
And now – there is a movement to get Americans to vote by mail. I’m assuming one political side sees this as an opportunity. The other sees it as a detriment. Whatever.
As pragmatically as I can look at the ridiculous notion of voting by US Mail, I find the premise laughable. If we, you know, the citizens, are permitted to go to Wal-mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Grocery Stores under various statewide and federal Covid-19 laws…we can go vote.
Those who must vote by absentee ballot, can still vote by absentee ballot.
But mail in votes for the able bodied citizens? No fucking way.
We have enough shakey confidence in this country in 2020 — adding doubt to the integrity of our Voting procedure can not be another area of citizen suspicion.
And our Presidential choices? Lunacy vs. Senility. Nice, eh? However, can it get worse? You’re damn straight it can. Put the absolutely increased chance of voting manipulation and outright fraud into the mix — our country’s shitshow will grow exponentally.
We need certainty. We need a clear winner. Whether this country moves in a new direction or we retain our current administration, at this point, the decision is not as important as providing this battered, bruised and suspicion electorate – certainty.
I’m over it.

Hard not to have Pandemic Blues. Nearing the end of August and so much of this entire ordeal really does not make sense. But not in a global, big picture kind of way. And no, not in a big conspiracy kind of way. No, from this writer’s vantage point, it’s the cumulation of all the smaller events, rules, attitudes and decisions that when thrown into a bucket and looked at as whole, really can make one’s head hurt.
We’ve proven, as a country, that by and large, we have safely gathered in peaceful protests. We have, as a citizenry, proven our ability to come together, peacefully protest and bring attention to injustice. This does not mean the injustice is gone. Far from it. However, what it does mean is that people can get together and look out for each other. Furthermore, it’s proven that most of America is not caustic toward each other for any reason, including race. And that, as a people, we do understand the importance of doing our part to slow down and eventually moving past Covid. And while mainstream media, social media and every politician from every persuasion does their absolute best to convince you everything I just expressed is untrue, to anyone really taking the time to breathe, look around and think, it’s apparent that the world is not burning. I’ll repeat. The world is not burning. It’s an illusion of media theatre.
With all of that said, I’m perplexed that PA’s Governor Wolf will not permit safe and limited attendance at high school sports this Fall. As it stands now, parents will be unable to attend or watch their children participate in High School sports. Especially difficult to understand for the sports played outdoors.
Certainly, with correct social distancing, the use of masks and just common sense, parents could attend high school football, soccer, lacrosse and track – safely.
Sadly, many Pennsylvania residents, including myself, remain deeply troubled with Gov Wolf and his administration over policies and new laws relating to our State’s Covid lockdowns, restrictions, and business shutdowns. And I’m afraid with this latest decision to prohibit attendance at high school sports, it is just another restriction which will certainly not help the social narrative in this State.
I personally can only point to the abject hypocrisy of this latest decision. In a long list of decisions and actions by Gov Wolfe in the past months which leave so many in this Pennsylvanians bewildered.
For EMP Show #128, Eric is joined by Stand-up Comedian and host of the Babyface Assasin, Jeff Fieldhouse! Politics in America.
Sad? Yes. Caustic? Yes. Mindless? Yes. Well, at least that’s my viewpoint.
Left vs. Right. How about Up vs Down? Why can’t we play in 3 dimensions? Do you see how ridiculous this is?
Left and Right are not even consistent in their terminologies in today’s era. If you are a ‘Left’ thinking person in 2020, would your Liberalism match Liberals from say, JFK’s era? And if you are a Conservative in 2020, would your brand of Conservatism play in 1960? I doubt it.
Some are so extreme Left, they become Right. And vice versa. You can’t make this material up if you wanted to.
Politics has become, for the most part, a litmus test. Furthermore, America is chock full of 1-issue voters. Maybe the bulk of voters are 1-issue voters. And how many of those people really understand the issue, thoroughly, that they believe they feel passionately about?
It’s pathetic. And fascinating.
I suppose the American political 2-party system has always been the same. Dysfunctional.
All the progression as a species. The technology in 2020 is amazing. Yet, America’s unwashed masses are stupid enough to glue they brains to a video screen, choose a side as if it’s some kind of professional sport, and then ‘root’ for their team. But in this circumstance – it’s not a game of athletic ability played by skilled athletic professionals. No. The public is rooting for their ‘side’ and the execution of dirty deeds conducted by ‘players’, at the expense of our way of life.
Our way of life.
Sound heavy? Too heavy? Maybe. Maybe not.
It can’t be underestimated how both ‘sides’ wish to generate vitriol from their legions of loyal believers. Vitriol against the opposing viewpoint. And encourage literal destruction, no matter the cost. Decades ago, the term ‘scorched Earth policy’ was something to be feared. And rarely exhibited in actuality. Today? It’s the norm. It’s the norm every, single day.
No, it can’t be understated. Most Americans have chosen a side, either passively or fully engaged, and because these American ‘believe’ their views are righteous and correct, they are ready to go battle. Battle. Against who? Their fellow Americans.
I have no answer what a fix could be. Not a clue. Thinking would be a start yet I fear that Americans are forgetting how to think. Talking with each other would be a start. Yet, there appears to be a continual move away from real, human communication. Talking will eventually become a thing of the past.
When you throw in the utterly laughable choice American’s are left to pick from and will pick from in November, as they decided who becomes the most powerful person in the world, it’s easy for anyone to see how utterly ridiculous it’s all become.
And in the year called 2020, should we really expect anything less?
UFOs, photography, mosh pits, local music, band jealousy issues, mushrooms, brownies, the trials of social media, pandemic boredom and sobriety are just some of the tops on hand as Sir Freddy Kowalo returns to Boogie Street Studio for another sit down with Eric. Fun, funny and real. As always! Join us!
Yes. Its’ what I do.
I do things. I create things. I try things. Take a risk. A shot. A gamble. Expose myself to critics. Whatever.
Actually, if I’m being bluntly honest, it doesn’t really phase me. All of it. Certainly, not anymore.
I gather that maybe I’m wired a bit different. For the most part, I gave up any concern I had about a decade or so ago. Gave up any concern for wide acceptance.
My late father once told me that I was a bit odd. He further went on to say that I ‘wasn’t for everyone.’ Kind of an ‘acquired taste’. And he lamented how powerful this fact was if I came to grips with it.
The question is then… did I come to grips with it? No idea. Not a clue.
I do know that I really don’t give a shit about my likeability quotient. Actually, I don’t even give it a passing thought any longer.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I want and enjoy friendships. I value them. I value my reputation with my clients and my reputation at my chosen craft. Whether that be as a Real Estate Agent, Podcast Show Host, Guitarist, etc. And of course, more importantly, as a Husband, Father & Friend. I value those relationships and the opinions of those people as to my work for them and/or my connection to them. Naturally.
But gaining wide acceptance? I honestly can’t be bothered. Not any longer. And so, I create. Selfishly, at this point. I create primarily to make myself happy. If acceptance is gained on a small or large basis – great. And so be it. But it’s not my purpose. The ‘inner spark’ does not come from any place connected with acceptance. Not any longer.
Reflecting back over the past decades, it worked out. We did OK. Folks were happy. Our reputation appeared solid.
While never intimidated by risk – I believe I would have done more. Taken more creative risks. Maybe started another guitar brand. An instrument mfg company. Done more branding. More lines of clothing. Who knows what else.
The pull of acceptance. The acceptance of others. It held me back. Really held me back.
With life experience comes clarity. Shame really. Shame to have this clarity, this much emotional freedom, this much lack of fear – so late in life.
Best I start crackin’.
